A lot of wine drinkers think all Chardonnay tastes well, like Chardonnay... and nothing could be further from the truth. Next Tuesday, January 17, Karl Hagnauer, owner of Wines of Wildwood, will prove it to you.
He calls the class "Potato/Patahto," and in it he'll show how the same grape, grown in different areas and vinifed slightly differently, can also tastecompletely different. Taste an American Chard next to one made in France, a Sauvignon Blanc from Australia versus one made in the U.S. or in France, compare an Italian Pinot Grigio to an American Pinot Gris, a domestic Pinot Noir versus one from France. The most versatile grape is probably Syrah, whose taste profile bounces all over the board.
Discovering the breadth of wine varietals is an eye-opening experience. And one that'll only cost you $15. Unless you take a little somthing home...
