The Olympics have been running for about a week now, and there have already been some major sports moments. From Michael Phelps becoming the most decorated Olympian of all time to the U.S. women's gymnastics team winning gold, American athletes have been dominating much of the games. With 10 days left before the closing ceremonies, there's still plenty of opportunities to cheer on Team USA. Read more about these St. Louis Olympians who are favored to add to the medal count:
Originally from East St. Louis, Ill., Dawn Harper is a favorite in the 100-meter hurdles. She won gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, a bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships, and finished first at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Harper is coached by Bob Kersee, the husband and former coach of six-time Olympic medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee, who is also from East St. Louis. She will compete on August 6 & 7. Spenser Mango is a Greco-Roman 55-kilogram wrestler who is looking for gold after finishing eighth overall in Beijing. Mango is from St. Louis and had a rough childhood after his father was shot and killed when he was in kindergarten. Mango eventually attended Christian Brothers College High School and became a two-time state champion. He was ranked No. 1 in the USA in his weight class heading into London and will compete on August 5.
A defenseman for the U.S. women's soccer team, Becky Sauerbrunn has already helped lead the team to three wins in London. She was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2007 and had a breakout year in 2011, when she earned a place on the 2011 U.S. World Cup roster. She plays next on August 3 in the quarterfinal against New Zealand.
