The Good, The Bad & The Lovely

From recycling to conserving energy, we try to do our part to be eco-friendly, but why not expand that to fashion? On September 19, Dr. Kate Fletcher, Slow Fashion consultant and reader in sustainable fashion at the London College of Fashion, will present on fashion and sustainability at Washington University's Steinberg Auditorium.

Fletcher has written more than 50 scholarly and popular publications in the field, as well as two books: Sustainable Fashion and Textiles: Design Journeys and her new book, Fashion and Sustainability: Design for Change.

Fletcher is also involved in multiple sustainability projects, including Slow Fashion Cosultancy, in which she works directly with companies, educational establishments and non‐governmental organizations to foster change.

Fletcher says, “By learning more about where our clothing comes from, what it takes to make and how far it travels to market, we can see the larger picture of a garment’s true lifecycle and environmental impact. We also can learn more about the types of materials used, how to care for our garments properly and more. Learning about the world around us is the first step to understanding our connection to what we buy and the impact our responsibility to act."
